The Run For The Paws 5K circles back around for the Winchester community Sunday.
Winchester Parks and Recreation partner with the Clark County Animal Shelter for the race’s third year. All proceeds support the Clark County Animal Shelter to help with expenses and projects.
“100 percent of sponsorships go straight to the Clark County Animal Shelter,” Deborah Jackson, director of programing and marketing at parks and rec, said.
The event is sponsored by community organizations. Jackson said the race has done well in the past to help support and raise money for the shelter.
A few adjustments have been made to this year’s 5K, to benefit runners, onlookers and any four-legged companions who may be accompanying them.
The race will be at Lykins Park, trading in hot asphalt for more comfortable grass and shade.
“The course at Lykins is 99 percent grass and cross country,” Jackson said.
“We were encouraged and advised by the animal clinics in town to try to get it to a place that had a little more shade and also wasn’t completely pavement,” she said
The race will start at 5 p.m. and runners will have to complete two laps around the park to finish the 5K.
A post-race picnic will be provided and animals adoptable from the Clark county shelter will make an appearance.
Advanced registration has passed but runners can still sign up on race day and participants will receive a T-shirt.
