It’s finally time for the Winchester-Clark County Farmers’ Market to open for the season.

Market board member Julie Staton said the market, or as she and others call it, “Winchester’s front porch,” opens 8 a.m. to noon Saturday on Depot Street, off North Main Street in downtown Winchester.

The market will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, and on June 18, Staton said the market will also open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m.

Depot Street will close to through-traffic during market hours.

Staton said about 27 vendors are participating this year. Vendors range from fruits and vegetables to honey, flowers, coffee, lamb, beef, soap, woodworking, wine and more.

“I love everything about our market,” Staton said. “Just come, shop and keep your purchases local.”

Throughout the season, there will be special programs as well.

The first will be the return of the Kids Bucks program. Kid’s Day is June 1, and during that time, about 200 children will receive free Kids Bucks, which they can use to buy food on a future visit. Various nonprofits will also be at the market that day to provide activities and more.

“Come down and be a part of the community,” Staton said.

Other special events include the Vegetable Festival which is July 6 and the BBQ Festival which is Aug. 3.

WIC, which is available through the Clark County Health Department, and senior vouchers, available at the Clark County Extension Office, will be available in June. The market matches vouchers with its Double Dollars program.

Closing day for the market will be Sept. 28.

“Bring your business downtown and shop local to help our community and our farmers during the market season,” Staton said.
