Senior Hayley Harrison helped lead her team to their third consecutive 10th Region championship.
Harrison fought through injuries this season and even missed the entire 40th District tournament.
Her time to shine arrived Tuesday in GRC’s 71-49 win over Harrison County as she dropped 24 points.
Harrison said she felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders when the fourth quarter buzzer sounded and joined her team to rush the court to hold the trophy.
“We’ve been talking about achieving this all season,” she said. “We wanted this all season.”
Harrison said her team is already excited to tipoff the Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.
“We’re going to carry over the fight we had tonight,” she said. “We were aggressive on defense and executed out offense. We’ll need to take what we did tonight with us next week.”
Harrison said she was fueled by her team’s energy to take charge and score buckets when they needed it.
“I just wanted to win,” she said. “There wasn’t any other motivation other than that besides my teammates feeding me. I’m really glad they fed me the ball and trusted me. It was a big difference in how I played tonight compared to Monday against Scott.”
