Clark students place in conservation contests

Multiple Clark County students were recognized recently as winners of the Jim Claypoole Conservation Art and Writing Contest.
The contest is sponsored each year by the each year by Kentucky Farm Bureau and the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts. This year’s theme was “Diggin’ It!”
The Clark County art winner was selected from 210 entries while the county essay winner was selected from 150 entries. Judges from the local conservation district chose county winners, whose entries then move on to the state-level competition.
Students across the county in kindergarten through fifth grade competed in the art contest.
Natalie McKnight, Kaydence Endicott and Bryce Alfrey had the top poster entries from Conkwright Elementary. Alfrey was selected as the Conkwright Elementary school art winner.
Betty Sutherland, Raegan McCormick and Abraham Schuler had the top poster entries from Calvary Christian School. Schuler was selected as the Calvary Christian School art winner.
Brianna Raymond, Bailey Howard and Isabelle Herringshaw had the top poster entries from Baker Intermediate. Herringshaw was selected as the school, county and Area 6 art winner. Area 6 is made up of 15 Central Kentucky Counties. The art contest had more than 45000 entries from 94 counties.
Students across the county in sixth through 12th grade competed in the writing contest.
Savannah Canafax was selected as the school essay winner from Baker Intermediate.
Silas Coogle, Jia Jie Huang and Riley Williams had the top essay entries from Campbell Junior High School. Williams was selected as the Campbell essay winner.
Mikhail Merritt, Mayleigh Vanhoose and Olivia Craycraft had the top essay entries from George Rogers Clark High School. Craycraft was selected as the GRC essay winner and the overall county winner.
Each of the school winners, county winners and school representatives will be recognized at the Clark County Conservation District’s annual banquet in April.
