Winchester Police have arrested three people in connection with a shooting that occurred on First Street Wednesday afternoon.
Grmyko Chenault, 25, of Lexington, Alexssandra Chenault, 26, of Winchester, and Armonty English, 19, of Winchester, have all been charged in connection with the shooting that left one person injured.
WPD Capt. James Hall said the shooting began around 4 p.m. following a verbal altercation between two carloads of people in the parking lot of the Tyler Banks housing complex on First Street.
In one vehicle was Grmyko Chenault and Alexssandra Chenault. The other vehicle was occupied by English, Temetrius Stewart (no age given), 18-year-old Elyna Hooten of Winchester and an infant child.
Hall said the shooting carried on near the intersection of First Street and Madison Avenue.
Grmyko Chenault allegedly opened fire on the other vehicle, and Stewart was shot in the process. Hall said multiple cars in the area were also struck by bullets, but they were empty at the time of the shooting.
Stewart’s vehicle fled the scene and was later involved in an accident on Lexington Avenue, Hall said, prompting calls about a gunshot victim at the Dollar General store near the scene of the accident.
Witnesses on the scene told police English took a gun from the vehicle and attempted to hide it. Hall said a gun was recovered near the scene of the accident on Lexington Avenue.
Stewart was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Hooten was treated for unspecified injuries at Clark Regional Medical Center and the infant child was not injured.
Grmyko Chenault has been charged with first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Alexssandra Chenault is charged with complicity to first-degree assault.
English is charged with tampering with physical evidence.
Hall said at press time charges were not expected against Stewart or Hooten.
