Mike Caldwell: Results are in for readers’ choice awards

It is almost time to find out who is Best in Business.
The Winchester Sun’s annual readers’ choice awards were brought back this month.
The results are in.
Make sure you pick up a copy of Tuesday’s newspaper to see who readers voted as their favorites in more than 100 categories.
After a one-year hiatus, we decided to bring back the always popular section that allows readers to have a voice and connect with the business community.
Thousands of votes were cast on well over 500 ballots.
Most voters opted to use the online voting system, which was much improved this year and allowed us to prevent individuals from “stuffing” the ballot.
All those receiving a medal — gold, silver or bronze — are winners as this shows that readers think of them when it comes to a particular product or service.
And that is a very good thing.
Those who didn’t receive votes or didn’t get the results they wanted can use this as an opportunity rather than looking at it negatively. It’s a perfect time to reflect on customer service, marketing, community involvement, brand awareness and the other factors that go into creating overall perception of a business within the community.
We applaud all the businesses and individuals that are recognized in this contest because we know it doesn’t happen by accident. Earning votes from our readers takes hard work and just generally being good community citizens.
On behalf of The Winchester Sun and all the businesses receiving votes, we want to say “thank you” to the readers for taking the time to show they care about the community and allow their voices to be heard.
Again, there are only winners here. Grab a copy of the newspaper to see who made the list.
Anyone recognized as a medalist in the Best in Business readers’ choice awards is making a positive impact within our community and customers are noticing.
Congratulations and keep up the good work.
