Board of Adjustments approves use for YMCA

The Winchester-Clark County Bard of Adjustments approved a request last week enabling Thoroughbred Gymnastics to operate out of the old YMCA building located on Westmeade Drive.
According to a staff report from the Winchester- Clark County Planning and Zoning Department, Thoroughbred Gymnastics owners Paul and Kathy Bradley applied in July for a conditional use permit for the 14,000 square foot property, which is zoned agricultural. The YMCA was able to operate on the property with a similar permit.
Planning and Zoning Director Robert Jefferies said the board fully supported the application.
“The YMCA item and all the other items on the agenda for that night were approved unanimously,” Jefferies said.
According to the staff report, the Bradley’s wish to relocate their gymnastics program from its current location on North Main Street to the old Y building. The move would enable them to expand the services Thoroughbred Gymnastics offers and host regional competitions.
“The Bradleys’ current plan is to fill in the existing swimming pools and replace them with other outdoor recreational activities, such as a playground and/or basketball courts,” the report stated.
In addition, the report said the Y’s tennis courts would be maintained and rented for use.
In other business, the board:
— Approved a conditional use request for Scobee Funeral Home Services enabling the funeral home to install a crematory at 7 Phillips Court.
— Approved a 25-foot variance for Osiris Investments LLC allowing a hotel to be built up to 60 feet tall at 4697 Revilo Road. Jefferies said the hotel will be a Tru by Hilton.
— Approved a conditional use request to Kentucky Bank allowing a drive-through bank to be operated at 50 North Maple Street.
— Approved a variance request by Shannon and Daphne Phipps to build an accessory structure in the front yard at 800 Trapp Goff’s Corner Road.
