Winchester attorney William Elkins has filed to run for the office of Clark County Attorney in 2018.
Elkins, 50, is a registered Republican and will be facing off against Democrat incumbent Brian Thomas.
Elkins ran unsuccessfully against Thomas in 2014.
“It’s been reported by independent studies that Clark County is a community that is falling behind,” Elkins said in a statement. “We have increased crime and drug use with no general improvement in community living or opportunity. We have stood by and watched the communities around spread out and prosper with new business growth. This prosperity brings with it opportunity, better schools and services.”
Elkins said Clark County’s crime rates are, in part, a reflection on some of the leadership in the community.
“I think we’ve got our own little swamp that has to be drained here,” Elkins said. “And I say that with respect for many of the leaders in office.”
Elkins said he has practiced law for 29 years. He lives in Winchester with his wife Gina Hall Elkins and four daughters, Lauren, Emily, Casey and Sydney.
Election Day is November 6, 2018.
