Winchester native Bobby Wolfe has always liked the idea of owning a store in his hometown.

“I like to help out my neighbors, that’s what I enjoy,” Wolfe said. “and I enjoy people.”

For the past month that dream has become a reality. Wolfe is now the owner of Wolfe’s Bakery Outlet on Bypass Road next to Katie Tire.

It’s an industry he’s familiar
with, having worked for decades in the retail and wholesale businesses.

“I put 20 years in on a truck and trailer,” Wolfe said. “Our saying then was ‘rain, sleet, snow or shine, we sell Little Debbies all the time.’ I still say it now.”

But after many years behind the wheel, Wolfe said he decided open a fixed place of business in the town he’s hung his hat in all his life.

“I wanted to give people a high-quality item at a good price, and I want to have something on sale every day,” he said.

The outlet offers a wide variety of bread and Little Debbie products, which Wolfe acquires through his wholesale business connections. However, he said he is continuously expanding his inventory, which now includes products from Pepsi and Ale-8-One as well.

He said he enjoys providing low-cost food to the people in town, and he has worked with Dale Hatton in the past to provide some of his inventory to those in the community who may be in need of food.

While Wolfe is manning the counter solo currently, he said his long-term goal for the store would be to eventually expand regionally and open some more locations.

“I’d like to have four or five outlets that I could turn over to my children some day if they wanted it,” he said.

And it’s a goal he said he’s ready to work for and has seen some good feedback from. Wolfe said when he first opened, business was slow, but since then it has been continually increasing through word-of-mouth advertising.

“I tell my sons you have to put a lot in to get a lot out,” Wolfe said. “That’s the way I was raised.”

Wolfe’s Bakery Outlet is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Information on specials can be found on the store’s Facebook page.
