Farmers market to offer gift options at open house

The Winchester/Clark County Farmers’ Market will offer several locally made gift options to shoppers this Saturday at its second annual open house.
Clark County farmers will put their wares on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the former Graham’s Western Wear on Main Street across from Leeds Theatre.
Market President Molly Stotts said the event has a dual purpose for farmers.
“The goal is raising an awareness of our market and providing some last-minute shopping choices,” Stotts said.
While the produce normally associated with farmers markets won’t be available, the open house will feature spices, meats, coffee, wine, sauces, jams and jellies, handmade baskets, crafts, decorations and more that visitors can browse.
“We are 100 percent Kentucky proud,” Stotts said. “Obviously there won’t be fresh produce, but lots of our folks do value-added products, spices, hot sauce, bread etc.”
There will also be giveaways, she added.
Santa will make an appearance from 10 a.m. to noon to speak with children who stop by.
The Winchester/Clark County Farmer’s Market has been in operation since the 1970s, Stotts said. For the past two years, the organization’s members have met on Tuesdays and Saturdays during the growing seasons on Depot Street to sell the goods harvested from their farms.
Stotts said the idea for an open house closer to winter came from one of the group’s members, and it was received well last year.
“Everyone, including the community, wanted us to do it again,” she said. “There are lots of unique items for Christmas

presents for that person that’s hard to buy for.”
This year the market will offer gift certificates
