Health Sciences teachers Heather Abner and Teresa Cowan at the Area Technology Center hope their program can expand in the coming years.
That’s largelyy because of an equipment donation from Dr. Shanda Morris, who recently closed her private practice in order to join Kentucky One Health.
The donation includes many pieces of equipment the ATC did not have access to previously, including a phlebotomy chair, an ultrasound machine and various other equipment found in a typical doctor’s office.
“This allows us to hope that we can expand the program to offer two new certifications for EKG tech and phlebotomy tech,” Cowan said.
Abner said the benefit of offering the new certifications is that students at the ATC could have the potential to get jobs in the health care field upon graduation, offering them work experience and potentially a foot in the door with a company they can build a career with if they choose.
