First United Methodist drug deaths memorial

In 13 months, 38 people under the age of 45 have died in Clark County of drug overdoses, according to Winchester First United Methodist Church.

The church is inviting the public to participate in a community memorial service at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at the Bridge Campus, located in Winchester Plaza.

The service is in memory of those who have died of drug overdoses, as well as to help and encourage those who live with permanent injuries from drugs.

The church said it aims to “release” those who are addicted and the families of those who struggle with drug addiction from the stigma and shame society places on them.

More than 5 million people die each year of drug overdoses, and a large number die yearly in Clark County.

The wives, husbands, parents, children, brothers and sisters that drug tragedy leaves in its wake are often forgotten.
