A group of 35 students and three faculty members will represent the Bluegrass Community & Technical College Winchester/Clark County campus at BCTC Day at the Capitol in Frankfort Thursday.
While in Frankfort, the group will meet with legislators, including Reps. Richard Henderson and Teddy Edmonds, as well as hosts Rep. Don Pasley and Sen. R.J. Palmer, both of Winchester.
There will be a student/advocate meeting with Thayer and a student gathering with Palmer and Pasley.
Participants also will have an opportunity to tour the Capitol and Governor’s Mansion before having lunch with the legislators.
The students will be introduced at the Senate Education Committee in the morning and recognized from the Senate and House floors in the afternoon.
The trip will be both fun and a learning experience for the students, said Campus Director Bruce Manley.
“Some of the students are from a political science class, and some are from a public speaking class, and both will be getting credit for the trip because it ties directly into what they are currently studying,” said Manley. “They will get to see how the budget process works and see that they have a voice in what goes on in government by speaking to the legislators.”
This week is BCTC Week at the Capitol, and Manley said each college in the system will be represented by faculty and students.
