The Winchester Music Club, which is affiliated with the National and Kentucky Federation of Music Clubs, met on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Rose Mary Brooks Place.
Dr. William Cooper, president, welcomed guests. The club sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic” with Dr. Cooper as accompanist and Cecil Garrett read the Collect.
Dr. Cooper introduced the folk music program. A dulcimer group from Winchester presented a delightful program. Jean Livolsi is the leader of the group and they meet on Monday evenings at 6 p.m. at the College Park Gym on Wheeler Avenue.
A group of approximately 18 played their dulcimers as the following songs were sung: “Boiled Them Cabbage,” “One Soul Never Dies,” “Nothing But the Blood,” “In the Sweet By and By,” “Give Me the Roses,” “Unclouded Day,” “Farther Along,” “Red River Valley,” “Cripple Creek,” “I Feel Like Traveling On,” “Ol’ Joe Clark” and “Precious Memories.”
Refreshments were served by Cecil and Betsy Garrett and Bebe Fox to all.
The next meeting of the Winchester Music Club will be on Tuesday, March 23 at the First Presbyterian Church on Windridge Drive. Dr. Cooper is the program sponsor for the guitar program. Dr. Dieterhemnings of the University of Kentucky faculty will give a guitar concert.
