New farm supply store opens
Walnut Knoll Farms & Supply opened a new location this month, selling farm equipment in Winchester. Owned by Gary and Kay Riebel, the store opened Feb. 1 at 711 Boone Ave. Among the items they sell are tractors, hay equipment, mixers, rotary cutters haulers, feeders, mowers and trailers. Riebel began the company in 2004, moving to the current headquarters in Flemingsburg in 2007. After growing and adding equipment lines to the inventory, the company decided to open another location to provide sales and services to Clark County and surrounding areas. The store is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. It is closed Sunday and major holidays. The phone number is (859) 744-5275, and the Web site is www.cheap-tractors.com.Group calls for movement on bill
FRANKFORT. (AP) — A group that wants payday loan interest in Kentucky to be capped at 36 percent gathered at the state Capitol to urge a fair hearing for a bill locked in a House committee. The Kentucky Coalition for Responsible Lending also released a report Tuesday that it says shows the economic damage caused across the state by payday lending. Coalition chairwoman Amy Shir says the report shows the real costs of payday lending. One example in the report shows that, in Louisville, 132 lenders collected nearly $27 million in fees in 2008. House Bill 381 is in the House Banking and Insurance Committee.Story comments
