Winners of Conservation District contests are announced
February 17, 2010

Winners in the 2009 Conservation Art and Writing Contest have been chosen from approximately 506 essays and 200 posters entered. The contest is sponsored annually by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts. The 2009 theme was “Water! Every Drop Counts.”

Jillian Gallenstein, a sixth-grader at St. Agatha Academy, was the first-place county essay winner and, Alicia Uresti, a fifth-grader at Pilot View Elementary School, was the first-place county art winner. Both will receive a plaque, ribbon, T-shirt and a cash award from the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation.

The second-place county essay was written by Travis Drumm of George Rogers Clark High School and second-place county art entry was Devan Robinson of Strode Station Elementary School. Each will receive a plaque, ribbon, T-shirt, and a cash award from the district.

Third-place county winners were Kendal Bowman from Conkwright Middle School for the essay entry and Emilee Rogers of Winchester Christian Academy for the art contest. They will receive a plaque, ribbon, T-shirt, and a cash award from the district.

Both county winning entries will be sent to compete in the state contest.

Other first place school winners who will receive a plaque, ribbon and T-shirt are:

Essay: Jordon Conn, Clark Middle; Kayla Finley, Winchester Christian Academy.

Art: Grace Poe, Hannah McClure (kindergarten-2).
