Local industry reports 3Q decline in sales
February 11, 2010

Sekisui Chemical Company, the parent company of Sekisui S-Lec America in the Winchester Industrial Park, reported a drop in sales and operating income in its third quarter financial report for 2009.

According to the report, net sales for the first nine months of 2009 are 13 percent below totals last year, while operating income has plummeted 25.7 percent.

“Sekisui Chemical struggled to improve its performance results in the third quarter of fiscal 2009,” the report said. “The widespread demand stagnation from the worldwide economic recession that took hold in the second half of the pervious fiscal year led to declining sales in the automotive and other segments. ... The company continued improving operating efficiency, but the impact from the decline in sales volume was insurmountable, resulting in a decline in operating income for the quarter.”
